Outdoor Painting on the Greek Island of Paros

Greek Fishermen (Aliki, Paros) by Ron Johnson

Currently we have no workshops scheduled with Ron Johnson.

We do have plein air watercolour with Crystal Beshara

Now you can paint there at affordable cost

Ron Johnson, well known plein air painter and instructor from Cincinnati, Ohio has teamed with Michael and Karin Shepherd of Paros Hospitality to offer superior instruction and hospitality in an incomparable setting.

Ron will be teaching "plein air" techniques that allow the artist to complete a painting on site. Students will paint at a different island location each of six days with lots of one-on-one instruction in composition, color, paint application, drawing and self critique.

This is not a beginner workshop, as students must have some prior knowledge of oil painting techniques before they arrive at this sensational island.   Afternoons will include more painting and time to enjoy the numerous Paros beaches; evenings will be a mix of group discussions, dinner parties, socializing with island artists and free time.

The previous package fee was only 800 Euro.  This includes one week of lodging, transportation, and painting instruction.  Most meals are included; Greek fun and friendliness are free extras.  Transportation to Paros is not included but we can help you find the best flights.  Non-painters are welcome at a reduced rate. 2012 rates will be determined in January after all new Greece taxes are known.

Particulars by email.

Due to popular request we are adding an optional extra week to visit the major sites in Athens and the Greece mainland.  Take a look at Art & Antiquities

Greece:  A European country like no other.  You cannot turn a corner without seeing remnants of the ancient civilization.  Athens is a must see for anyone who wants to walk in the footsteps of Socrates.

The history of the Cyclades predates even that of Athens with the added attraction to artists of crisp air and brilliant colors.  Included in this group are dramatic Santorini and posh Mykonos.  Paros is the hospitable island with just the right proportions of culture, people, shops and other activities and an over generous supply of fine beaches with warm water and charming tavernas.  Paros is a blending of the busy, touristy towns of Parikia and Naoussa with numerous small villages, our two favorites being Lefkes and Aliki.  We also see Piso Livadi as an archetypical Mediterranean port.  Aliki is a quiet village just off the main stream of tourism with two beautiful beaches and lots of natural nooks and crannies to catch the artist's eye. Workshop artists never tire of the quaint subjects and vistas of the mountain village of Lefkes.

Paros Hospitality accommodation has the plain Cycladic architecture that you see everywhere; we offer the same clean private bathrooms and balconies that you find elsewhere.  The difference is Michael & Karin's friendliness.  They have travelled through-out the world and have now settled on Paros.  They know how to balance their guests' needs for company and information with privacy and discovery.
